This incredibly rare robin egg-colored Nautilus is selling for 60 times more than its original retail price.
The second-ever Tiffany Blue Patek Philippe Nautilus to appear on the aftermarket just outsold its pre-auction valuation, cementing its status as one of the most coveted variants of a model that already resells for 13 times more than its retail price.
In 2006, Patek Philippe revamped its iconic stainless steel sport watch for the 21st century with reference 5711, which was produced for 15 years before being discontinued in 2021.
Its swan song was the “Tiffany Blue” reference 5711/1A-018, featuring Tiffany & Co.’s blue livery and logo in celebration of the brands’ 170th anniversary of partnership. The robin egg color predates even this partnership, having first been used on the cover of Tiffany’s Blue Book in 1845.
The first Tiffany Blue reference 5711 fetched $6.5 million at a charity auction, and the other 169 examples were offered to biggest-name clients and collectors—Robb Report mentions Leonardo DiCaprio and Jay-Z.
This one was estimated to sell for as high as 3,000,000 CHF ($3,045,357) at a recent Christie’s auction, but it outperformed with a final sale of 3,1740,00 CHF ($3,222,000). RR adds that the original retail price was $53,635, meaning that the Tiffany Blue reference 5711 is now selling for 60 times more on the secondary market.
If and when the other 168 become available, the sky’s the limit. But any pre-owned Patek Philippe Nautilus is a fantastic investment, according to an expert.
