CREATE YOUR LIFE
The final version of Aston’s V12-powered grand tourer goes out with a bang.
The 2023 model year marks the end of the current Aston Martin DBS (known previously as DBS Superleggera) generation. To mark this momentous occasion, Aston Martin has created a limited run of 499 DBS 770 Ultimate special editions, each with a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 producing 759 horsepower, the highest output of any roadgoing Aston ever.
But even the “standard” DBS pictured here is a formidable force, with the muscular 12-cylinder sending 715 hp to the rear wheels via an ZF eight-speed transmission.
But it’s not just raw speed and power that make the DBS such a remarkable machine. The car also features a sporty suspension system, with a front double wishbone suspension and active damping that facilitate three driving modes: GT, Sport, and Sport Plus. This allows for a smooth and comfortable ride on long road trips, or a more dynamic and engaging driving experience on the track.
Naturally, the DBS comes with a range of creature comforts that befit a car of its class. The seats are heated and ventilated, and the interior can be trimmed in ash wood grain, carbon fiber, or satin-finish chrome, with five optional seat belt colors to choose from. There’s also an optional four-piece luggage set that matches the interior of the car, making it the perfect car for those long road trips.
In terms of entertainment and technology, the DBS features an eight-inch display with GPS navigation, Bluetooth audio and phone connectivity, and a built-in garage door opener. The infotainment system is borrowed from Mercedes-Benz, and there’s a nine-speaker audio system or an optional upgrade to a system from Bang and Olufsen.
When it comes to real-world fuel efficiency, the DBS isn’t exactly the most economical car on the road, but it does offer an EPA-estimated 14/22/17 mpg city/highway/combined fuel efficiency, and a monstrous 20.5-gallon fuel tank, ensuring you can enjoy the open road without worrying about constantly stopping to fill up.
For the adventurous spirit, the Aston Martin DBS is the perfect car, a luxurious and powerful machine that delivers comfort and performance in equal measure. Not to mention its almost artistic design. With sleek lines and elegant curves, it’s arguably one of most aesthetic cars available.
I was lucky enough to drive the DBS down the winding roads in Malibu. The feeling of power and luxury is evident from the moment you slip into the driver’s seat and grip the leather-wrapped steering wheel. The roar of the V12 engine echoes off the canyon walls as you press the accelerator, and the car effortlessly picks up speed, leaving everything else behind.
Aston Martin DBS 770 Ultimate
The DBS’s handling is incredibly precise, allowing you to navigate the sharp canyon corners with ease. The suspension system is almost perfectly tuned, providing a smooth and comfortable ride on the most poorly paved surfaces.
The 2023 DBS coupe has a starting price of $333,686, while the DBS Volante convertible starts at $352,886. For those lucky enough to secure a DBS 770 Ultimate Coupe, the price is $450,000, while the DBS 770 Ultimate Volante will set you back around $475,000.
