1200X1200Bf 60 Lauren Daigle By Lauren Daigle

Lauren Daigle has already had a wildly successful career, with three albums under her belt and the crossover hit “You Say” establishing her as a pop force. But her fourth album is simply called Lauren Daigle—a title that most artists would use for their debut. As Daigle tells Apple Music, this is a reflection of her self-confidence and an acknowledgment of the progress she has made. “It’s because it took those records to find my voice,” she says. “The voice that I can stand on in front of people and say, ‘This is what I love! I love this sound.’ I didn’t [get the] cultivating in my garage, with a band, the sound that I want to put out into the world.” On Lauren Daigle, she and producer Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple, Carrie Underwood) do exactly that, and Daigle felt energized while taking cues from musicians live in the studio. “It’s old-school, but it’s the place I come so alive,” she says. Daigle considers “Valuable,” which she co-wrote with the country-pop powerhouse Lori McKenna, to be the song on the album that best represents this evolution. She began brainstorming while sitting in a parking lot after a particularly intense therapy session where she was challenged to “actually have a knowing of ‘I am valuable’”—something tough to realize when one is in what she calls “the vortex of the music industry.” After her parking-lot breakthrough, she went into the studio and worked on the song some more. “I get the first half of the chorus,” she shared. “‘If you feel like you are not valuable/Let me tell you, there’s more/If your heart is running in circles/Telling your head things that are not true,’” she said. “That’s where it stopped. I go into the room, and Lori McKenna [asked me], ‘Who are you speaking to?’ At the time, I also had a person in my life that I needed to say this to. Looking in the mirror as a female, a lot of people are like, ‘Am I good enough? Does my hair look right?’ All of that ideology and learning—‘what am I communicating through my visual?’ Am I good enough? Am I worthy enough? It’s one of my favorite songs on the record.”
